When you call about your Volvo drive, there’s a good chance you’ll be talking to Andrew. He runs our service department and our Volvo Penta drive department, and he’s the one who’ll walk you through what’s wrong and what it’ll take to fix it, in plain English.
Andrew and his brother Alex are the next generation of US Boatworks, the business their dad, Mike Tracy, co-founded in 1984. That means the person answering your call has a stake in getting it right.

Signs Your Lower Unit Needs Attention
- Milky or water-tinted gear oil
- Metal flakes on the drain plug magnet
- Grinding, clunking or whining in gear
- Hard shifting, or slipping out of gear
- Oil leaking around the shaft seals
- A cracked housing after hitting something
Caught early, a repair can cost far less than a full replacement. That’s why it pays to have us look at it.
What Happens When You Bring It In
- We inspect it. Full teardown, with the housing checked for cracks and corrosion.
- We tell you straight. Repair, rebuild or replace: you get an honest recommendation and a quote before we start.
- We rebuild it right. New seals and gaskets, with gears, bearings and shafts inspected and replaced as needed, all with genuine Volvo Penta parts.
- We set it to factory spec. Shimmed, filled, and pressure and vacuum tested before it leaves the shop.

Every remanufactured lower unit we build is assembled with genuine Volvo Penta parts and comes with our one-year limited warranty for the original buyer, starting the day you receive it.
And if you ever need it, you call us. No claim forms, no waiting on a reply, no runaround. Pick up the phone and talk to a real person who knows your drive. Have your receipt handy if you can, but don’t worry if you can’t find it. We keep records of every unit we sell.
The warranty covers our work under normal use and care. It doesn’t cover damage from impacts, corrosion, freezing, overheating, abuse or improper installation. Read the full warranty terms.
