In part 4 our our gearcase mini-course, we will discuss REMANUFACTURED GEARCASES. Dive into the information below to discover if a rebuilt lower unit is right for you.
A rebuilt or remanufactured unit should be built by quality, trained mechanics with quality parts. These units offer the best of both worlds usually giving you OEM parts, a unit assembled by trained mechanics in the US and a nice price savings over new OEM units. This option is the preferred choice of most boaters. Here is why:
- Priced at deep discounts to save you money
- Rebuilt by trained mechanics in the USA
- Units usually include a full 1 year warranty but this will vary
- Built new to manufacturer specifications
- Includes all internal parts & is fully compatible and interchangeable with OEM drives
- Core charges allow for recycling of your old unit*
- Usually ships in 24 hours
An important aspect of many remanufactured gearcase pricing is the core program. The core program is an upfront charge added to your total invoice that is refunded when your old core is returned to your rebuilder. Similar to exchanging propane tanks for your gas grill. This charge motivates customers to send back their old core which allows shops to recycle that old unit. Upon receipt of your old unit, an inspection is performed to determine if any of your old unit is reusable. Refund amounts will vary depending on the health of the old unit. Check with your rebuilder for more details on their specific core program.
