- Sterndrives & inboards: stabilize the fuel, change the oil and filter, fog the engine, drain the block and manifolds, change the drive gear lube and check it for water, and replace the fuel/water separator.
- Outboards: stabilize the fuel, flush and drain, change the lower unit gear lube, change the oil and filter on four-strokes, and get it protected for the winter.

Before the first hard freeze. In the Kansas City area that’s usually late October to early November. Shop schedules fill up fast once the cold arrives, so we recommend booking as soon as you’re done boating for the season.
Do you winterize outboards?
Yes. Outboards drain most of their cooling water on their own when trimmed down, but they still need winterizing: stabilized fuel, fresh lower unit gear lube (water left in old gear lube can freeze and crack a gearcase), and an oil and filter change on four-strokes.
