Quality Remanufactured Lower Units
Welcome to part 4 of our gearcase education course. In the previous articles, we reviewed both the OEM Lower Unit and the Non-OEM Lower Unit. In this article, we have a frank discussion about the rebuilt gearcase. So let’s get to it.
A rebuilt or remanufactured unit takes the outer shell of the gearcase, the metal exterior case, and recycles the case. This outer case is cleaned up, sanded and repainted so it looks close to new. The rebuilder then, will replace the internal old and worn parts with new parts. This is a great option for many boaters since you get new internal parts and you recycle the outer case, keeping them out of the landfill.
A rebuilt or remanufactured unit should be built by quality, trained mechanics with quality parts. These units offer the best of both worlds usually giving you OEM parts, a unit assembled by trained mechanics in the USand a nice price savings over new OEM units. This option is the preferred choice of most boaters. Here is why:
*Priced at deep discounts to save you money
*Rebuilt by trained mechanics in the USA
*Units usually include a full 1 year warranty but this will vary
*Built new to manufacturer specifications
*Includes all internal parts & is fully compatible and interchangeable with OEM drives
*Core charges allow for recycling of your old unit and offers $ back to you!
*Usually ships in 24 hours
The core charge is an amount added to your total invoice that is refunded when your old core is returned to your rebuilder. This charge motivates customers to send back their old core which allows shops to recycle that old unit. Upon receipt of your old unit, an inspection is performed to determine if any of your old unit is reusable. Refund amounts will vary depending on the health of the unit. Check with your rebuilder for more details on their specific core program.
